In an effort to consolidate its leadership in the evolving AI field, CEO OpenAI Sam Altman announced his most advanced AI model ChatGPT, open to all ChatGPT users and developers, at a live broadcast on Thursday, emphasizing that it had achieved a significant increase in reasoning, programming and creative writing.

OpenAI indicated that GPT-5 would be open to all users free of charge and to the majority of those who pay ChatGPT subscribers as of that date. Businesses and educational clients are expected to have access next week. OpenAI stated that paid users would enjoy higher levels of use.
Sam Altman claims that GPT-5 has achieved a “significant upgrade” designed to make users feel “like talking to experts”. The model is less responsive, more precise and “furnished” than its earlier version. GPT-5 is also free to decide when more time is needed to deal with the problem, without having to choose a specific AI model manually by the user.
At the launch, OpenAI also introduced four new chat robots, “Cynic” “Robot” “Listener” and “Nerd” , currently available in the form of “Research Preview”. These options are intended to enable users to customize the way ChatGPT interacts with them.

The core strength of GPT-5 lies in its software development. OpenAI demonstrated how the model quickly built a full Web application with game and interactive features based on simple instructions. Early testers, including Lovable and Anysphere, indicated that the model was significantly more capable of generating, repairing and maintaining codes.
OpenAI attaches great importance to GPR-5 practicality in the field of software development. With an increasing number of technology companies and start-ups building an AI tool to help developers prepare and debug codes more efficiently, a new wave of “bridging” is taking shape. Sam Altmann described this shift as central to the GPT-5 impact and stated that the concept of “demand-based software” would define the next phase of AI.

This release comes at a time when OpenAI is under increasing competitive pressure in the United States and China. Companies like Google, Anthropic, Mask, and DeepSeek in China are advancing their own advanced models. At the same time, Meta has been expanding its AI team and has reportedly taken out several OpenAI employees.
To maintain its advantages, OpenAI has mobilized tens of billions of dollars to support its model, data centre and computing infrastructure development. According to Bloomberg, the company is also at an early stage of stock-sale discussions, with a possible valuation of about $500 billion.
